Born in in the rolling hills the of the Smoky Mountains, I’ve spent most of my life exploring the mountainous terrain and country roads of East Tennessee. I love the outdoors, whether I’m hiking, biking, running, swimming or skiing. Rock climbing is my my newest outdoor goal. I’ve only been climbing in indoor facilities. My first rock climbing experience was a sad sight. I’m terrified of heights so once I had climbed 7 feet up I froze! After a little coaxing from my more experienced friends I managed to climb back down without falling.
So, since I have that embarrassing story out of the way, lets move on to my professional and educational life. I am a senior studying public relations at the University of Tennessee. There is only one more semester between me and graduation in December. This semester I’m saying, “Bring it on!” At school I’ve been involved in our online publication the Tennessee Journalist. I was a staff writer for the Arts and Culture section. It was fun! I had never been to the University Gardens before I wrote an article about it and it was beautiful! I was also treasurer of our PRSSA chapter for the 2011-2012 year. PRSSA has been a part of my life for the past two years. I’ve hosted events, helped fundraisers and of course managed the money. I even attended the PRSSA 2010 National Conference. Being involved with PRSSA has been one of my favorite experiences. Outside of school, and the outdoors, I intern for the communications department at the Knoxville Opera. I’m planning a great mother-daughter event for the spring but I can’t tell you about it yet! It will be amazing! I also volunteer once a week for Young-Williams Animal Center. I love animals and have two pets at home, a rat terrier named Ginger and my baby gecko, Dubie. In between all of this I make just enough money to stay afloat as a part-time cafe manager at Target.
