Like I said before, I’ve not been involved with politics until this year with all the social media hype. So I was finally able to watch the Presidential Debate on Wednesday. While the debate was on, blaring on three TVs in my house, I had my Twitter feed and Facebook account open so I could see what some of my friends were saying about the debate and post a few things myself. Apparently I wasn’t the only one. According to USA Today, Wednesday’s Presidential Debate between Romney and Obama was “the most tweeted event in political history!” Here’s a graph from USA Today tracking tweets during the debate.
If you watched the debate, I doubt you missed Romney’s Bid Bird comment. Neither did the world of twitter. An entire account, @FiredBigBird, was created based on Romney’s statement with almost 9,900 followers by 10 p.m. Wednesday night! I just checked the new account and followers are more than 30,000 now. I even posted about this comment!
I think NewsOne did a good job to sum up the debate: Big Bird is endangered. Jim Lehrer lost control. And Mitt Romney crushed President Barack Obama. Here is CNN’s Electoral Map. So if you’re in the battleground states, get tweeting to support your presidential candidate! The world is listening and you can make a difference through social media.
